| The use of abrasive wheels is a secure operation,
however, some basic rules must strictly be followed. |
|
| .IMPORTANT ! |
| .. |
| The most common causes of accidents with grinding wheels
are: |
| • Errors when mounting the wheel |
| • Wrong usage |
| • Speed above the limit |
| • Wheel damaged during transportation or handling |
| • Lack of machine maintenance |
| |
| ...What to DO |
| .. |
01. Store and handle the wheels carefully.
02. Do a visual inspection
and a ring test before mounting the wheels.
03. Check the speed of the
machine. Machine max. RPM should never exceed max. RPM marked on the
wheel.
04. Use clean flanges, with equal diameters on both sides and
with at least 1/3 the diameter of the wheel.
05. Use new blotters
between the flange and the wheel.
06. Adjust the support of the part
that's going to be worked on correctly.
07. Install and close all safety
devices: guards, screens etc.
08. Start the machine and run it idle for
2 minutes, with all personnel away, every time a new or used wheel is
mounted.
09. Wear safety glasses, safety gloves, dust mask and use ear
muffs.
10. Turn off the coolant before turning off the machine.
Unbalancing is avoided by "drying" the wheel. |
| |
| ...What NOT TO DO |
| .. |
01. Do not use a wheel that has suffered a fall or that is
cracked.
02. Do not force the wheel on the mounting device and do not
modify the wheel bore.
03. Do not exceed max. RPM marked on the
wheel.
04. Do not use dirty, non-flat or greasy flanges, or which do not
have recess around the center bore.
05. Do not exceed the tightening of
the bolt.
06. Never grind on the side of a wheel which is not designed
for this operation.
07. Do not turn on the machine without the
"protection guard".
08. Do not abuse a wheel with too much grinding
pressure, shocks etc.
09. Do not stand in front of the wheel when the
machine has been turned on. Move to the side.
10. Do not use wheels
that are not suited to the application. |
The understanding and usage of the wheels is the
operator’s responsibility, according to security standards.

Additional
information can be obtained at FEPA -
Federation of European Producers of Abrasives.
.
Avoid the inhalation
of wheel particles and dust.
.
Use vacuum systems for dust removal. |
